Imagine a world without heartache, a world where people love people, a world where we can be ourselves. That long-distance world became real this week. It’s that time of the year… it is Hillsong Colour Conference.
Within six days I saw a glimpse of an upside down kingdom. A space intentionally created to let heaven come down. Anywhere where people can walk, changed to streets of gold. From the backstage docks, down the corridors and between the isles of the arena. It was as if gold dust was left behind as our creative team served one another. Backdock prayer meetings filled till overflowing. Spontaneous worship and prayers lifted the rafters before each session. It was an unseen war room of prayer to see breakthrough in each and every person attending the conference. We get to walk on holy ground.
Some nights went on late as we found ourselves editing backstage, reading Song of Songs and dreaming of the secret places of God. Conversations changed from doing to becoming. We challenged each other’s thoughts and encouraged the new season ahead. You know it’s late when the arena’s security tries to kick you out by telling you that you’re the only person left, but that didn’t stop us from reminiscing about God’s faithfulness.
Heading into a conference like this without any form of familiarity is hard. We do this year in and year out. The layout of the building is the same, the walls are still purple (help me Jesus) and the majority of the team knows what’s going on. The difference that I saw was the growth in maturity. You can honestly see how people have grown not only in talent and gift but also emotionally. There was an ease with tasks that needed to be completed. There was a new hunger to see people set free. It’s not about ourselves but about the one that does not know Jesus.
I saw a team let go of insecurities and actually believing that they are good enough. A team wrestling to walk in their God-given authority. A team that let others see their vulnerabilities.
We are different individuals in a united creative team. Our goal, to outwork the mandate of Colour. If you don’t get it, believe me, you will get it soon enough. My people. My friends. My family. It’s not hype when you understand the seeds we sow.
There’s something beautiful about freedom and breakthrough.
Until next year.
